You know the pickings are really slim when we all collectively find ourselves excited about the Date Everything dating sim announcement that will allow us to romance our furniture. We understand that’s a confusing sentence, packed with words that aren’t meant to go together, but that is exactly what Team 17’s new game is set to offer. To elaborate, Team17 Digital and Los Angeles-based developer Sassy Chap Games released a trailer for their new game on July 26, which revealed an upcoming interactive dating simulator for household objects.

It’s not a game for your Hoover to find love with your piano, but a game where you can love, hate, and be friends with everyday household objects. Things don’t seem to be going too well considering the state of dating apps today, so living in a fantasy world where anything is possible doesn’t sound all that bad.

Everything We’ve Learnt From the “Date Everything” Announcement

According to the dating sim announcement, the game is a sandbox dating simulator where players can slap on their “Dateviator” glasses, which will allow the objects around the house to come to life with unique and distinctive character designs. Each of these anthropomorphic characters is fully voiced “for players to fall madly in love with,” so you won’t just tap through text dialogue or passively watch characters interact with each other.

There are three relationship resolutions in the dating sim—Love, Friend, or Hate—which give you a lot of different options to build your relationships in-game. There’s a “critical path tying it all together” but you don’t have to settle for peace if your playstyle exudes chaos.

The Date Everything announcement notice also included a few mentions of familiar voice actors who were lending their vocals to the game, for example, Johnny Yong Bosch who voiced a few different Power Rangers and was also the voice of Ichigo, the main lead of one of the Big Three animes, Bleach

Grey DeLisle has also signed on to the game, known for voicing the ever-so-stylish Daphne in some parts of the Scooby-Doo franchise, and Princess Azula on Avatar: The Last Airbender among many other roles. Actor, singer, and web series creator Felicia Day has also been mentioned in the Date Everything announcement.

The Voices, Chico, They Have Something to Say

What’s most impressive is that the game developer studio Sassy Chap Games has been established by an entire cohort of well-loved voice actors who have come together to expand on the kind of games entering the industry. “Currently crafting curious creations,” the alliterative catchphrase on their Twitter/X says it all.

The group includes Robbie Daymond who is known for voicing Peter Parker in the Spider-Man TV series, Mumen Rider in One-Punch Man, and Chai from the Hi-Fi Rush video game. Then there’s Ray Chase who has had some extremely popular anime roles such as Sukuna from Jujutsu Kaisen, along with work on Final Fantasy XV. If you’ve watched dubbed anime with any regularity, you’ve probably heard both of their voices.

Max Mittelman has also voiced some popular roles such as our favorite bald superhero Saitama from One Punch Man, Harry Osborn from the Spider-Man TV series, and more recently having worked on Final Fantasy VII Rebirth as well. The Date Everything announcement also mentions Amanda Hufford, the voice for the Sumpter Beast and Fungi tamer Haniyyah from Genshin Impact and Ragatha from The Amazing Digital Circus

They’re a talented bunch of artists who have something to say through these upcoming games, and we’re all ears.

Is This Really a Dating Sim about Household Objects?

Showing off the specs of Team 17’s new Date Everything sim, the press release reports that there are over 4 hours of music to go with each dateable character, around 70,000 voice lines, and over 11,000 hand-drawn images that make up the game. It sounds like a work of labor and love, for a pure cause. There are 100 different humanized characters you can encounter in the game so there are many ways for you to redirect how the story takes shape.

It isn’t the first time non-human characters have been given a personality, for example, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Sonic the Hedgehog have had a long run playing humanistic roles, but anthropomorphic objects are a new one for us. Playing from a first-person perspective, you have full freedom to explore the household appliances around you, whether you have a personal preference for a really elegant piano or a gigantic, wolfish refrigerator.

The trailer gave us a glimpse into the character designs and it features a delightfully diverse cast of characters with a unique aesthetic to showcase their original object designs. We’re not sure how to feel about the floating commode and sink in the trailer and the implication that they come alive too, but we’re going to wait to see the game and how all of it unfolds. It’s an extremely silly game concept but with how joyous the Date Everything announcement posts look and sound, it could still be a fun experience.

Simulator games are not meant for everyone, and dating sims have a more niche audience, however, the group isn’t small by any means. The recent cancellation of the Life by You game was extremely disappointing for fans who had been waiting a long time for its release, but maybe Team 17’s new game can fill that void for some. The Date Everything sim can be wishlisted on Steam right now and it will also be available to play on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation5, and Xbox Series X|S. The release date for the game has not been announced yet, but we’re hoping it isn’t too far away.
