It weighs 3.1 kg with a solid soundbar. It’s 1018 x 73 x 104 mm soundbar makes it ideal for today’s large screen sizes and comes along with optional raiser feet. There are both left and right speakers inside the soundbar, which is powered by digital amplification. A wireless subwoofer comes with the Denon DHT- S516H soundbar with an in-built amplification and delivers low-end frequencies. This rear-ported, downward-firing subwoofer measures 17.2 x 31.1 x 17.2 cm and weighs 6.6 kgs. It also has non-skid pads (optional) to match the soundbar.
The Denon DHT-S516H connection comes in two recesses. The first contains an HDMI input and output with ARC that allows it to send audio’s from the TV and back to the soundbar. The HDMI port is built to handle 4K, HDR, and HDCP 2.2. The second recess with an optical digital input, a 3.3 mm Jack, a USB port, and an Ethernet connector is also compatible with WI-if, AirPlay 2, and Bluetooth.
The soundbar is a 2.1-channel system with two built-in speakers having a 5-inch full-range driver and a soft-dome tweeter. The Denon DHT speaker is restricted to lossy surround sound formats like DTS:X and Dolby Atmos. The device’s efficient HEOS platform provides access and provision to various online platforms like SoundCloud, Amazon Music, Spotify, TuneIn Internet Radio, TIDAL, Napster, and other local music file libraries.
The stereo is quite impressive, and so is the powerful subwoofer. Denon is useful for both TV, movies, and music despite not having a center speaker.
The Denon DHT- S516H is a well designed and engineered soundbar that provides excellent overall performance. The sound quality is brilliant, and thanks to the subwoofer, the speakers’ amplification creates an expansive front soundstage. The two-channel nature of the Denon DHT-S516H lends itself to both music and TV and movies pretty well. The dialogue remains well despite the lack of a center speaker. But the 2.1-channel system, however, leads to loss of impact in the surrounding soundtrack.
The lack of a dedicated remote control could be a significant disadvantage. Although, the ability to work with both Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa makes up for it. The Denon DHT-S516H is an excellent choice for people keen on music and HEOS, although there are better alternatives than the price or interest in movies.
