Gamescom 2024 Opening Night Live just dropped a Dying Light: The Beast announcement that no one saw coming—the glorious return of the legendary Kyle Crane. Developer Techland has confirmed that a new game in the post-apocalyptic Dying Light series is getting set for release, although an official date and prices have not been revealed yet. The Dying Light: The Beast trailer was revealed during the event, and it is just as intense as the other two games have been so far.
There’s something about the disaster-fueled, monster-packed genre of gaming that we just can’t get enough of, and if there’s one thing the Gamescom 2024 Dying Light trailer revealed, it is that there are enough deadly beasts for everyone to shoot, stab, and have a go at.

Dying Light: The Beast Announcement—Kyle Crane Is Back to Seek Revenge
The Dying Light: The Beast announcement and press release have revealed that the newest addition to the series is a standalone game set in the post-apocalyptic ruins of Castor Woods. Once populated by tourists, the new inhabitants of the region are quite the opposite of welcoming. Dangerous and mysterious creatures roam the region and their human counterparts are just as deadly, forcing you to put your life on the line once more to seek retribution for what was done to you. If John Wick and James Sunderland can survive despite the odds, so can you.
“Featuring natural landmarks, small villages and industrial complexes, the setting offers diverse traversal options, whether it’s using your parkour skills to gain the upper hand on your enemies or hopping into an abandoned 4×4 to outrun the horrors of the night.”
Surrounded by crumbling structures and cramped complexes, you are forced to fight the thriving zombie population and survive in this new world. Daytime is easy enough to get through and traversing the open-world landscape doesn’t drain all of your resources, but once the sun sets and darkness descends, the creatures of the night come out to play. When the zombies come out in hordes, your survival skills are put to the test. But who are you and why are you here?
The Dying Light: The Beast trailer showcases the return of Kyle Crane, the protagonist of the original Dying Light game who had risked everything to help humanity through the original virus outbreak. With voice actor Roger Craig Smith reprising his role at the helm, the game returns you to the zombie-packed setting like you never left. After being experimented on for years, with zombie DNA flowing through your veins, you now get to flex your new skills as you set off on your latest adventure.
New Dying Light: The Beast Game Details
The Dying Light: The Beast announcement states that the game has over 18 hours of content and can be played solo or in multiplayer mode with up to four players. The new game began as a DLC for the previous game in the series, Dying Light 2 Stay Human, but after some considerable work on the game, Techland decided that it would work much better as a standalone game.
Dying Light 2 was released in February 2022, and it was a big hit back then, with many positive Steam reviews to vouch for its enjoyability. Some still believe the original was much better than the sequel, so the return of Kyle Crane makes them hopeful for the new release as well.
The fact that #Techland is releasing #DyingLightTheBeast as a stand alone game and not Dying Light 2’s expansion makes me hopeful for the future of the series since I really didn’t like some of the changes in the sequel’s directions, especially with its latest story additions. pic.twitter.com/BH8quxovo5

New players who haven’t experienced the series before can start with this game without trying the previous game straight away. Owners of the Dying Light 2 Stay Human Ultimate Edition who have been waiting for the DLC patiently can get the new game for free. It’s a sweet deal for those who have supported the game from the beginning, and it’s unlikely that the paid copy will be too expensive either.
If the Dying Light: The Beast trailer has you excited, then you can go ahead and wishlist the game on Steam, Epic Games Store, Xbox, and PlayStation right now. The game will be playable on PC as well as current-gen and last-gen PlayStation and Xbox consoles so you can catch it on whichever platform you prefer.
Looks like a good deal.#DyingLight#DyingLightTheBeast #OpeningNightLive pic.twitter.com/38n14S1nQU

Despite the fanfare with which Dying Light The Beast was showcased, we do not have a release date or even an approximate timeline in sight, which is a tad bit disappointing but we don’t expect to have to wait too long for more updates. From Vampire Survivor to the Silent Hill 2 remake, there’s a lot happening in the monster-based gaming world that we have our eyes on, and this new game is another perfect addition to the list.
