How to Make a New Gmail ID Quickly and Efficiently
Google doesn’t limit how many accounts you create or what you do with these multiple IDs so it can be quite easy to create a Google email for your specific need. There are many reasons we can think of why someone might want to create a Google email account right now.
If you’ve completed the ultimate teenage rite of passage then we can bet you have an embarrassing email idea that’s too goofy for a professional work environment. Alternatively, you might be really old school and have an outdated Hotmail account that you want to graduate away from. We’ve also seen many readers create an additional email for the new business or as a way to channel all the spam to one place.
Don’t tell anyone you heard it here, but if your cloud storage is full and you don’t want to invest in buying more storage space, a second account can come in handy. Granted it does come with the mental gymnastics of remembering more passwords and IDs and struggling to locate the right photo every time, but it is an option that is available to you.
We also realize that Gmail, for seniors, can also be a little confusing to set up, and a written guide can be handy in ensuring no steps are missed by mistake. Whatever your reasoning for wanting to learn how to make a new Gmail account or add another email to your Gmail app, we have all the steps right here.
How to Open a Gmail Account On Your Computer or Smartphone
It’s extremely easy to create a Gmail account on your PC or smartphone, so we’ll take you through the steps for both. Let’s start with the Gmail email setup guide for PC.
- Open the Gmail website. You can go to your Browser and search for Gmail or just type Gmail.com into your browser search bar
- Locate the “Create an Account” option at the top or center of your screen
- Enter your first name and last name in the boxes provided on the screen. The last name is optional. This is the name that you will find associated with your account. Click “Next”
- Add in your date of birth in the space provided. This information will be used to verify your age when accessing age-restricted content for example, if you use the same account to access YouTube
- Then add gender. You can choose not to reveal your gender or add a custom option instead. Click “Next”
- This is the hard part—choosing an email ID that is not already taken. If you want your business name, check if it is available. For a professional email ID you can use at work, it is best to use your name but know that it is likely to be taken. You will have to try a few different options before you can proceed
- Remember, you only need to type the identifier name part of your address as the “@gmail.com” will be added automatically. Click “Next”
- Now you have to create a password. Do not give in to the temptation of using something simplistic like “Hello123” because these do not provide an ounce of security. Think carefully of a password that is both complex and memorable, and you a mix of alphanumeric characters including uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols
- Retype the password. Click “Next”
- Add a recovery email ID if possible. This refers to an existing email ID you can use in case you ever face any troubles with logging in to your new account in the future. If you don’t have an existing ID, you can choose to skip it, but it is not recommended
- After you click “Next,” you will be asked to review your email ID and name before confirming its creation by hitting “Next” again
- You can then review the privacy settings and terms and conditions presented by Google and hit Next for the final time to complete the setup
Voila! You now know how to make a new Gmail account. Once you complete these steps, you’ll be logged into your new email id and you can begin exploring the mailing features available to you. You’ll have access to the mailing features as well as Google Drive, Google Photos, and other services provided by the company.
Add Other Emails to the Gmail App
If you have email accounts from other service providers like Yahoo and Outlook, then it can be really cumbersome to manage multiple different apps to check all of your inboxes. Luckily, Google makes it really easy to set up other account IDs on the Gmail app so you don’t have to switch between apps to make the most of your account. All you need is the Gmail app on your smartphone, and the email ID and password for your alternate accounts.
- Open the Gmail app on your smartphone
- Click on your profile picture in the corner and you should see a list of your connected accounts and IDs
- Find the “Add Another Account” option and click on it
- Tap on the service you want to add an account from—Outlook, Hotmail, Live, Yahoo, Office 365—or on “Other” if your email provider is not listed
- The app will redirect you to the website of your choice and request that you log in with your password and email ID
- Once you choose all the sync settings and log in, you will be able to access the account on the Gmail app when you tap on your profile photo
It is much easier to add an email ID from one of the providers mentioned above than from another source as you will have to enable IMAP and SMTP access from your original email website and then identify the correct security configuration of support that access on the Gmail app.
