The iconic 2006 game has set gamer hearts ablaze once more, introducing players to Marcus Fenix and the gritty depths of Sera. The game already has a remastered version, Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, which was released by The Coalition in 2015, but the studio is collaborating with Sumo Interactive and Disbelief for another Gears of War: Reloaded remaster release.

There’s also a nice bonus for those who purchased the 2015 Ultimate Edition of the game prior to the announcement. Those who purchased the digital version of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition before 16:00 UTC on May 5, 2025, will get a free upgrade to Gears of War: Reloaded. A code to access the game will be delivered directly to eligible Xbox accounts.

The Gears of War series was already in for an upgraded prequel in late 2025 or early 2026 with Gears of War: E-Day. Now, players can understand the state of planet Sera world and dive into its past with the next release more enthusiastically.
The Gears of War: Reloaded remaster release is a strategic pivot for Microsoft and Xbox, taking an iconic title and updating it to match modern gaming standards as well as the declining importance of platform exclusivity. The inclusion of all Ultimate Edition content paired with modernized visuals ensures the game feels fresh yet faithful.
