Picture this—it’s the weekend, and you’ve just woken up from a peaceful night of sleep, now comfortably settled into your couch with the new Switch 2 in your hands. The day, free of plans, stretches in front of you. Nice, isn’t it? The Nintendo Direct event for the Switch 2 is scheduled in a few hours—6 AM PT on April 2, to be precise—and the reveal will finally give us confirmed details about the new handheld. It won’t be too long before you can get your hands on the console.
From pricing to the Switch 2’s 4K support, there are a lot of confirmed details on the gadget, but regardless of the uncertainties, gamers are excited. The Nintendo Direct event in March gave us clear insights into the games that are coming to the company’s consoles, but many are hoping to play it on the new Switch 2. The Nintendo Switch 2 livestream is expected to be 60 minutes long.
The Switch 2 reveal is unlikely to involve such excessive details, so the Nintendo Direct event could involve some new gameplay footage and other discussion around the upcoming console. It’s the last call to send in your Nintendo Direct predictions. What are your expectations from the console?

The Nintendo Direct Switch 2 event is building up to be one of the biggest release events of the year. Are you tuning in?
Nintendo Direct Switch 2 Livestream: Everything You Need to Know
If you’re excited about the Nintendo Direct Switch 2 livestream, then you’re likely among the thousands hoping to tune in and see what the company has on offer. The original Switch was first released on March 3, 2017, and we’ve had a long wait for Switch 2 ever since. Of course, we did have some mid-cycle re-releases like the Switch Lite on September 20, 2019, and the Switch OLED on October 8, 2021, but these didn’t offer up anything new.
The Switch 2 is expected to have hardware and design upgrades while sticking to the general system that made the original console so popular. Let’s look at the details we have so far on what to expect from the Switch 2.

Where to Watch the Nintendo Direct Switch 2 Livestream?
The April 2 Nintendo Direct Switch 2 showcase will be available to watch on the Nintendo Twitch channel for everyone who uses the platform. If you don’t use Twitch, just open any of the official Nintendo YouTube accounts to join the conversation and keep up with the latest Switch 2 news.
When Will the Nintendo Direct Switch 2 Showcase Take Place?
The Nintendo Direct livestream for the Switch 2 has been scheduled for Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at 6 AM PT/ 9 AM ET/ 2 PM BST. The stream will be around 60 minutes long, so grab your favorite and get comfortable before you settle down for the long livestream.
If you’re more committed to the cause and don’t think the hour-long showcase will be enough to satisfy your curiosity, there are two Nintendo Treehouse Lives also scheduled on successive days, April 3 and 4, 2025. These will be 4 hours and 3 hours, respectively. The Nintendo Treehouse livestreams will showcase some hands-on gameplay on the new Switch 2, so you’ll be able to see what you’re investing in. This will begin at 7 AM PT/ 10 AM ET/ 3 PM BST on both days.

The Switch 2 design keeps the original aesthetic alive, aside from a few tweaks that could improve its capabilities.
What to Expect from the Switch 2: Specs and Capabilities
We don’t have too many confirmed Nintendo Switch 2 specs available yet, so all we can do is look at some Nintendo Direct predictions that are making the rounds. Switch 2 will be backward-compatible with Nintendo Switch games and Nintendo Switch Online. This is a major detail about the console that gamers are interested in seeing.
As for other Switch 2 specs:
- Switch 2 will be bigger than the original with a 7.4-inch or bigger screen expected
- The Joy-Con attachments have a new locking mechanism that could be magnetic
- Hall-effect joysticks in its Joy-Cons for greater durability and precision
- Extra button on the right Joy-Con and extra shoulder buttons expected
- Rumors of Joy-Cons showcasing optical sensors that support mice-like use
- The Switch 2 controller will feature a headphone jack
- Bluetooth headphone support expected at launch
- The new kickstand is similar to the Switch OLED
- Downward-firing speakers on the bottom edge
- Dual USB-C ports are available on the top and bottom—may suggest some additional accessory compatibility

- Nvidia T239 processor rumored for the Switch 2

- Virtual Game Card system to help with switching between systems
Nintendo Switch 2 Release Date Predictions
The Nintendo Direct Switch 2 event will tell us all we need to know about pre-orders and release dates, but we can make some predictions. Rumors suggest that pre-orders for the Switch 2 could open up as early as April 9, with a shipping date in June. It is coming out in 2025—this much we know, but there are no confirmed dates for its release yet.
Nintendo is organizing a roadshow, or “Nintendo Switch 2 Experience” events, for a more hands-on experience for prospective buyers. This means that the console will be released once it is complete. The last such event will take place on June 1 in Seoul, so we can expect the release to follow soon.

The Switch 2 pricing may play a big role in how the console sells, but Nintendo’s pricing sounds reasonable enough.
Switch 2 Pricing: What Will the Cost Be?
If you’re hoping for a $300 console like the original Switch 2 from 2017, lower your expectations because this is unlikely. The Nintendo Switch 2 is expected to be priced at $400 or slightly higher, keeping in mind that the Switch OLED was priced at $350. With the inflation numbers and upcoming tariffs considered, the Switch 2 could be priced higher than expectations.
Nintendo Direct Predictions: What Are Some Expectations from the Switch 2?
Details like the battery life and RAM specs will be revealed during the Nintendo Direct event on April 2, but while we wait for the exact details to be revealed, there are some hopes attached to the Switch 2. The Switch 2 controller’s headphone jack integration is being lauded by fans who were worried they would have to give it up, but there are some more unique features that deserve some attention.
The function of the brand-new C button has been central to the Nintendo Direct predictions, with many suggesting it has some form of community-focused capability. With the Nintendo Switch Online: Playtest Program from last year and the apparent focus on multiplayer gaming, it does appear that Nintendo could go all in on building a social aspect to its upcoming console.
Full on-device voice chat is something that Switch 2 fans are praying for, but we’ll have to see how things go.

Rumors of the Switch 2’s 4K Support
The option of 4K gaming when docked has been a key detail in the latest news cycles surrounding the Switch 2, but there are some doubts about this as well. Insider Gaming spoke to developers during a conference, and some of them suggested that some of the dev kits for the Switch 2 don’t offer a 4K output option. This doesn’t mean the feature is going to be absent, but it has sparked some worry.
We’re optimistic that the Nintendo Direct Switch 2 showcase launch will announce 4K support, as it would be silly for the company to miss out on this opportunity for a console that has garnered this much interest and likely won’t be upgraded for a few more years. With a decent chipset, there are also rumors of a patent that suggests there will be DLSS-style AI upscaling for graphics, which should make for a very pleasant display output.

Are you set for a new Mario experience on a brand new Switch 2 console?
Switch 2 Games: Upcoming Titles
For now, there is very little to go on in terms of Switch 2 exclusive games. There’s a confirmed Mario Kart 9 game release, which could be called something else, but the Nintendo Switch 2 livestream will most certainly feature more details on this release. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is also launching on Switch in 2025, but it doesn’t appear that it will be a launch title with the Switch 2.
The Virtual Game Cards system that Nintendo has showcased suggests that some Switch 2 Edition games are coming, but we are short on the details. With an enhanced The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and a 3D Mario game expected to make an appearance, we likely won’t be short on games to look forward to in the coming months.
Third-party games from PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X will eventually come in to sweeten the deal, with a Halo and Final Fantasy 7 Remake appearance also expected, in a limited capacity. We wouldn’t be opposed to a new Animal Crossing game, as much as that only appears to be a hope and not a Switch 2 prediction for now.
Will the Switch 2 Live Up to Expectations?
With the Switch 2 release date being the most talked-about topic right now, Nintendo has a lot riding on its release. The Nintendo Direct Switch 2 event will tell us just how close the company will come to meeting the expectations of eager fans, but from everything that is already known about the console, it is likely they will.
Fans aren’t expecting any massive upgrades and revamped systems but a console that meets the current standards of gaming and updates on its already-loved capabilities. Are Hall-effect joysticks in its Joy-Cons too much to ask for? Fully on-device voice chat? We don’t think so.
Will the Switch 2 outperform the original console in terms of sales? That remains to be seen.
