Nvidia’s black screen issue fix is here for the RTX 50 series of products, and it comes in the form of a v572.60 driver update. The GeForce RTX 50 driver fix could not have come sooner as users have been reporting frequent and debilitating annoyances with their screens going dark during use. The Nvidia forum was stacked with complaints regarding the issue and they seemed to occur not only with the RTX 50 but the RTX 40 and 30 series cards as well.

Users with the older cards just avoided updating to the latest drivers but for those with the RTX 50, this was not a viable option. The RTX 50 black screen issue has been linked to multiple different factors and the solutions offered by users have been just as diverse. The discovery process of trying different things out has been extremely cumbersome, but the new RTX 50 driver update should put the matter to rest once and for all—hopefully.

Nvidia’s Black Screen Fix Comes Just in Time

The Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 are both extremely expensive and extremely in-demand graphics cards that have been flying off the shelves recently. Despite their popularity and price, however, the chips have been causing users to see a blank, black screen instead of functioning as expected.

These crashes are not healthy for the system and also disrupt the user’s ability to use their systems comfortably, defeating the purpose of investing in these expensive cards. The scenarios where the RTX 50 black screen issues have risen have been varied—in some cases, users encounter it while the resolutions switch while for others, multiple monitors lead to the freezing.

Rebooting was enough to resolve the issue for only some users, who then had to get creative with isolating the problem and coming up with a solution. Many experimented with reducing the PCIe 5.0 interface or setting their monitor refresh rates down to 60 Hz in order to use their system, but none of these provided a permanent fix. For some users, earlier driver updates where the reason they began to see the black screen.

After the complaints continued to keep pouring in, the company stated that it was “investigating the reported issues with the RTX 50 series.” Now, Nvidia has offered up a black screen fix that should put an end to the matter.

The Situation with the RTX 50 Series Black Screen Issue So Far

Last week, a member of the Nvidia staff took to the Nvidia portal to confirm that they were actively working on the RTX 50 black screen fix and would release a driver update or VBIOS update to address the issue soon. Earlier in the week, a vBIOS firmware update was released by MSI through the MSI Center app which also helped the RTX 50-series black screen issue to a degree.

Now Nvidia has released a new display driver for Nvidia graphics card owners, facing the disruptive RTX 50 black screen issue. The 572.60 driver update also has other general bug fixes and support for performance gains achievable with DLSS 4 in Naraka Bladepoint.

What Does the New RTX 50 Series Driver Update Address?

Nvidia’s black screen fix is where we have most of our attention but that is not all the 572.60 Driver update solves for the RTX 50 series. The driver also addresses gaming bugs that were causing some apps to experience a display stutter on SteamVR while using the GeForce RTX 50 series, which is another problem that some users had complained about on the forum.

We’re just happy to see the RTX 50 black screen issue resolved, but as for issues in other areas of functioning, the 572.60 Driver update also mentions a fix for:

  • [Adobe Substance 3D Sampler] Crashing at launch with R570 branch drivers [5083712]
  • [Adobe Substance 3D Painter ] Texture corruption in baking results from GPU raytracing [5091781]
  • [VRay 6] Unexpected Low Performance on CUDA Vpath Tests for Blackwell GPUs [4915763]
  • Audio issues when GPU is connected via DisplayPort 1.4 w/ DSC at very high refresh rates [5104848]
  • Applications may display slight image corruption on pixelated 2D patterns [5071565]

The 572.60 driver update offers some impressive support for Naraka: Bladepoint.

What Else Does the Nvidia 572.60 Driver Update Include?

The GeForce RTX 50 fix is enough reason to go look for the driver, but if you’re interested in Monster Hunter Wilds or Naraka: Bladepoint, there’s an additional reason to make the move. The driver includes support for DLSS 4 in Naraka that will allow you to move from brute-force rendering to experiencing the game at over 590 FPS in 4K, even with all your settings maxed out. GeForce RTX 5080 gamers can play at 312 FPS with the new update.

On GeForce RTX 50 Series GPUs, DLSS Multi Frame Generation works in concert with other DLSS technologies to multiply NARAKA: BLADEPOINT frame rates by 3.4X on average compared to traditional brute-force rendering.

Monster Hunter Wilds also just got a release today, hitting nearly 1 million concurrent Steam players right out of the gate. The optimized support for the game includes DLSS Frame Generation, DLSS Super Resolution, and ray-traced reflections, plus support for 29 new G-SYNC-compatible gaming displays. This expands the range of monitors that can provide a smooth, tear-free gaming experience with the Nvidia graphics cards.

How to Implement Nvidia’s Black Screen Fix?

You can continue to experiment and find a temporary fix yourself or use one of the many suggestions on the Nvidia forum and Reddit. However, the best way to ensure that the RTX 50 series’ black screen issue is resolved is to go to the Nvidia website and update your GPU driver from there.

Has the RTX 50 Black Screen Issue Been Solved?

From Nvidia’s point of view, yes, the RTX 50 driver issues have been fixed with the 572.60 driver update as users should no longer see the black screen or any of the other problems they’ve been encountering over the last few weeks. From the user’s point of view, the success of Nvidia’s black screen fix remains to be seen as it may not satisfactorily resolve the problem for everyone who has been encountering the issue.

We will keep our eyes on the forum and other social media platforms to see if there are any lingering complaints from users. Many are still apprehensive about Nvidia’s driver updates and their potential for making a bad problem worse, so the adoption numbers may be slower than expected as people wait to see how others fare with it.

If you’re still having trouble after downloading the driver, it might be a good idea to spread the word on the forum to see if you can bring attention back to the issue for additional fixes from Nvidia.

The issues with Nvidia’s uber-expensive RTX 5090 and 5080 chips have not been a good look for the company. The demand for these GPUs does not seem to have suffered from the results of the reported issues, but the rising customer dissatisfaction could eventually push users to turn to whatever competitors have to offer instead, even if their capabilities don’t quite match up to Nvidia’s offerings. Nvidia has been focusing all its attention on its AI offerings, but recurring issues with its chips have not painted the company in the best light.
