The PlayStation State of Play February event just went live and boy oh boy did they have some news to offer. An assortment of new PlayStation games were confirmed for 2025, and while some of them were already known, a few others came as a surprise. Depending on the kind of titles you enjoy, the Sony game showcase updates may have felt a little underwhelming, but it’s still exciting to see new titles make a debut.

Regardless of whether you intend to play them or not, more attention to the gaming industry gives developers more of an incentive to create games, which is a win for everyone involved. As horror game enthusiasts, we’re most excited about the launch of Five Nights at Freddy’s: Secret of the Mimic and Directive 8020, but let’s see if we can find other State of Play highlights for you to get excited about as well.

PlayStation State of Play: What’s In Store For Us in 2025?

The PlayStation State of Play event took the form of a 45-minute livestream on February 12, 2025. Sony’s game showcase updates involved a range of different announcements, from sequels to popular games all the way to new indie titles with an absurd premise.

One of the most talked about updates was that Gearbox’s Borderlands 4 finally secured an official release date for September 23, 2025, and we’re cautiously optimistic about how the game is going to play out. Fighting bloodthirsty bandits across arid landscapes is something we can get behind, especially to rid us of the sour taste the Borderland movie from last year left behind.

The game is expected to be the focal point during the next PlayStation State of Play event as well, so regardless of whether you’re looking forward to it, expect to hear more about the upcoming title in the coming months. If that’s not of interest to you, let’s take a look at some of the best PlayStation reveals for 2025.

Hell Is Us

Release Date: September 4, 2025
Developer: Rogue Factor
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and Series S

The third-person action-adventure game, previously thought to be a Soulslike game, looks just like the mysterious and gloomy game our hearts have been craving recently. The announcement trailer took us through some abandoned locations and gave us a glimpse into a handful of characters that promise to be their complex best. Paring the horrors of war with the horrors of the supernatural world is a combination we’ve seen before but haven’t tired of yet, so we’re excited to see how the game takes shape in September.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater

Release Date: August 28, 2025
Developer: Konami
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and Series S

Featuring a dramatic storyline and some action in equal measure, the Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater trailer showcased an impressive amount of action to keep us hooked to its entirety. Sony will likely promote this gaming again later in the year and give us more insight into the gameplay and promise of Ape Escape, so we’ll keep our eyes peeled for more game showcase updates from Sony.

State of Play highlights

Five Nights at Freddy’s: Secret of the Mimic

Release Date: June 13, 2025
Developer: Steel Wool Studios
Platforms: PlayStation 5 and PC

This may or may not be an unpopular opinion but Five Nights at Freddy’s: Secret of the Mimic is one of the best PlayStation reveals for 2025. The horrifying animatronics have captivated us from the early days when its gameplay on YouTube was all the rage, and it continues to do so today. The game’s release is only a few months away, and we’re excited to help retrieve Fazbear’s prototype endoskeleton mimic from the extremely creepy warehouse it’s stored in. Why not?

Lost Soul Aside

Release Date: May 30, 2025
Developer: UltiZeroGames
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, and Xbox Series X and Series S

PS5’s upcoming games for 2025 also include Lost Soul Aside, a sci-fi action RPG that takes us across shifting landscapes piled with hidden secrets and savage monsters. The fast-paced combat looks exceptional and best of all, the game features dragons! Creator Yang Bing describes the main character Kaser’s journey as one of “redemption and discovery,” and we’re extremely curious to see how that story plays out.

Directive 8020

Release Date: October 2, 2025
Developer: Supermassive Games
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S|X

Another standout announcement during the PlayStation State of Play stream was the introduction to the next game in The Dark Pictures anthology, Directive 8020. Offering up another perfect blend of sci-fi and horror, the game follows the crew of the spaceship Cassiopeia. Hunted by aliens and now mistrustful of each other, the five members must fight to stay alive and protect the future of humanity.

Will this be the best of PS5’s upcoming games releases in 2025? We think it has the potential to blow its competition out of the water.

PS5 upcoming games 2025

Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny

Release Date: May 23, 2025
Developer: Capcom
Platforms: PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, Switch, and PC

There is a new Onimusha: Way of the Sword game scheduled for release in 2026, but to make the wait until then a little bit easier, Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny (2002) is being remastered and released this year. The settings and gameplay of the game remain unchanged from the original, bringing a higher quality experience to fans of the title.

For those who want something more than just improved graphics, you can expect new settings like the “Hell” mode where single-hit kills become something to fear, and an easy mode for those who just want to explore the game without a serious challenge. Auto-save functions, cutscene skips, easy weapon swap functionality, and high-resolution gallery zoom are just some of the features you can expect from the remaster.

Monster Hunter Wilds

Release Date: February 28, 2025
Developer: Capcom
Platforms: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S|X, PC

One of the most anticipated titles in the new PlayStation games list for 2025, Monster Hunter Wilds’ beta tests have been less than ideal. Gamers have complained of poor graphics performance and a sub-par in-game experience, but the main game is expected to perform significantly better. The beta test has certainly not dampened our enthusiasm for the upcoming launch this month, and you too should keep your hopes up for what Capcom has in store for you.

Lies of P: Overture

Release Date: Summer 2025
Developer: NEOWIZ
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox Series S|X

The DLC expansion to the original game looks thrilling no matter whether you’ve played the original or not. The new “developers’ cut” of Lies of P takes us back to Krat and the many stories we’ve witnessed in the past, allowing us to explore the events that led us to the main game. “Through Lies of P: Overture, we aimed to fully refine, forge, and complete the story as we originally envisioned it,” Jiwon Choi’s PlayStation blog update states, so it’s going to be fascinating to see just how the game is recreated this time.

New PlayStation games 2025

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds

Release Date: Not revealed, network tests begin on February 21
Developer: Sonic Team
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox Series S|X, Xbox One, Switch

The PlayStation State of Play stream also gave us a glimpse of the upcoming Sonic Racing game and just like with Mario and The Legend of Zelda sequels, all releases are always welcome to add to the existing catalog of games. Speeding across land, air, and sea terrains, we expect to find ourselves racing with Sonic and his companions—the largest roster of characters in any Sonic racing game—on our customizable vehicles. There’s not much to report here, other than the fact that the game is bound to be fun.

Saros

Release Date: 2026
Developer: Housemarque
Platforms: PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro

Saros looks like one of the best PlayStation reveals in 2025 but unfortunately for us all, the game isn’t actually coming this year. The new single-player IP is not a sequel to the well-loved roguelike game Returnal, but it does follow and build on the same path of action we saw with Housemarque’s previous game. The story follows protagonist Arjun Devraj’s journey through his ever-shifting world, and while not much is known about the game, the cinematic trailer looks phenomenal.

We expect to hear more about it from future PlayStation State of Play events in the lead-up to the game’s 2026 release.
