Keeping up with Samsung’s announcements is quite a task in 2025, what with all of the announcements we have coming our way. In the latest release, Samsung announced the release of the Fold 7 Ultra without giving away any key details. Samsung’s teaser for the Fold 7 Ultra came with a shadowy silhouette of the upcoming device and a showy write-up about how versatile we can expect the device to be.

The Fold 7 Ultra has been shrouded in rumors for the longest time, and since Samsung hasn’t confirmed a single detail other than the device’s existence, we will have to continue relying on rumors for now. The Galaxy Fold 7 Ultra preview mentions “industry-leading hardware, cutting-edge performance, and seamless AI integration optimized for the foldable format,” which we’ll believe when we see it.

Samsung Fold 7 Ultra Release Confirmed But Details Remain Sparse

So what do we know about the Galaxy Fold 7 Ultra? Not much, to be fair. Samsung’s fold devices, the Z Fold and Z Flip, are expected to launch in July and there are many fans hoping it will ship with One UI 8. It might be too early considering the Beta mode for the UI was just released last month but Samsung is clearly exploring a quick release after the delay with One UI 7. Every year, a single foldable device is released in each category, but with the launch each year, it appears possible that the Fold category will feature an additional Ultra variant this time around.

The Samsung Fold 7 Ultra release does come as a shock to many as these foldable devices are already premium purchases in their own right. A Galaxy Fold 7 Ultra would mean an expensive addition to the category, and it’s unclear if there is a wide customer base for such a product. Cheaper Fold and Flip phones are growing more popular every day, giving customers a premium experience on a budget.

Samsung kept things decidedly vague in its Galaxy Z Fold Ultra preview, providing neither a name for the device nor any features that alluded to its capabilities. This defeats the purpose of a preview entirely as we have learned nothing from the post, but at least we can confirm that an Ultra Fold of some sort is on its way.

What Did the Galaxy Fold 7 Ultra Teaser Have to Say?

Samsung explained that “Galaxy’s next chapter is to provide an experience that seamlessly blends artistry and engineering to elevate everyday interactions,” after it explained that it had listened to its customers’ need for bigger screens, better cameras, and new ways to connect and create.

The teaser showcased the different scenarios in which the upcoming device could be useful, such as using AI voice search on a crowded subway to find a restaurant or text your friend, finishing a work email during the journey, and using the advanced cameras to record the night once you reach your destination.

“Galaxy’s next chapter is to provide an experience that seamlessly blends artistry and engineering to elevate everyday interactions.” The Galaxy Fold Ultra announcement post also made it clear that this was about a folding device by stating that the magic lay in unfolding the device and winning a spacious workspace. We expect that this new Fold variant will be thinner and more easily wieldable to make it worthy of the “Ultra” tag, but exactly what will make it stand apart from the base Galaxy Z Fold 7 is a mystery.

No Samsung Tri-Fold Phone In Sight

After Huawei left the smartphone stunned with its exclusive tri-fold phone, there hasn’t been another one quite like it. Early rumors suggested that Samsung was on track to release a $3,000-$3,500 smartphone in limited markets like South Korea and China. Huawei’s release was similarly limited, which has left the US market completely free of any such advanced folding device. Samsung even suggested as much during the Galaxy Unpacked event earlier this year but has not provided an update ever since.

The silhouette image shared with the Galaxy Fold 7 Ultra teaser clearly shows a single-hinged device, which makes it obvious that despite a lack of any mention of the “Fold 7” naming, the device is not a tri-fold smartphone. A tri-fold phone would be a truly “Ultra” experience and set Samsung apart from competitors on the market, but we might have to wait a while longer for its release.

For now, we’re going to keep our eyes on the Fold 7 Ultra rumors and check to see if online sources are able to glean more information about the upcoming release. Hopefully, the smartphone will be able to revive Samsung’s presence on the fold phone market, despite its higher price tag.
