Tech in Motion: Lamborghini Telemetry X Introduced at CES 2024

The world of racing is just about to get more data-intensive and we’ve got the Lamborghini Telemetry X to thank for it. The Lamborghini CES booth (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas this year had some exciting updates as they revealed how they were planning to combine biometrics and drive data to create a comprehensive system of assessment of the driver’s performance. The Lamborghini Huracan STO was their first super sports car equipped with the telemetry system back in 2020, but the technology has only grown more refined since.

Lamborghini Telemetry X—What Does It Mean?

Telemetry systems are essentially technological input sources to collect data remotely and transmit them back to a central system where it can be used and processed for further interpretation. The Italian manufacturer, in collaboration with Accenture, has developed the Lamborghini Telemetry X, which combines three elements to create a comprehensive information system for its drivers that its future sports cars might get to experience. The three aspects that are set to work in tandem include the Real Time Remote Garage, Biometric Data System, and Digital Co-Pilot.

The Real-Time Remote Garage revealed at the Lamborghini CES event, is a web application which will allow for the collection of real-time video recordings of the driver’s performance along with telemetry data that they can review when they need. Not only will the driver get an outsider picture of their performance, but the data will also be useful for coaches to utilize for remote race tracking, allowing them to review the driver’s performance from any corner of the world. 

The Biometric Data System gathers the drivers’ physical data during the drive to further fine-tune areas of improvement that can be utilized while training. Racers often fight themselves battling extreme conditions when they’re out on the race track, zooming at unbelievable speeds with extreme pressure exerted on their body. Keeping a check on their internal conditions is often necessary as a part of their training but syncing it with the vehicle’s performance appears to be an even better idea. 

Both systems work in sync with the Digital Co-Pilot, a voice assistant that consolidates the gathered information and provides feedback to the driver while on the track. The “Digital Co-Pilot analyzes lap times and provides useful pointers for improving racing lines and braking points, as well as information on the performance of the car on the track,” according to a Lamborghini blog post. 

The Lamborghini Telemetry X feature has reportedly been tested on the Revuelto most recently, but there’s no clear picture of how the service will be rolled out and when exactly people will get to test out the system for themselves. Rouven Mohr, Lamborghini’s Chief Technical Officer, believes this data gained from motorsports will find significant application in road-going super sports cars as well and this could mean really efficient tech in the vehicles that are to come.
