Not a day goes by without a new rumor or release from Apple, and this time, we have to talk about the Magic Mouse and its rumored redesign. The little mouse is hardly one of the company’s popular product lines and doesn’t have the potential to generate the kind of buzz we see around a new iPhone or an iPad, however, it’s always great to watch the company update the rest of its ecosystem of devices.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, a trusted source on all things Apple, took to his Power On newsletter to reveal that the Magic Mouse was exploring new features to address some of the “longstanding complaints” that users have had regarding the product. We also have some updates on a new Apple foldable device in the works, but we’ll dive into it after we give the Magic Mouse some time in the limelight.

The Apple Magic Mouse Redesign Doesn’t Sound as Noteworthy as We’d Like
We’d love to say that the Magic Mouse redesign details have left us itching to get our hands on the gadget, but the rumors remain unimpressive. Apple finally switched the charging port on the controller to a USB-C one a few months ago, and that was the biggest upgrade to the device that the gadget had seen in recent years.
Now, the major update to the gadget is that the company is finally considering moving the charging port away from the bottom to a more accessible place on the device.
It would be typical of Apple to make a standard upgrade that everyone has already seen and call it a new feature, but even this minor move may just be enough to get loyal fans to use the Apple mouse over the other, far superior, Logitech and Razer-branded options on the market.
There is also the possibility that the mouse will finally be more ergonomic, as the company is looking to create a device that “better fits the modern era.”
When Can We Expect the Upgraded Magic Mouse to Release?
Gurman provided a very cautious estimate for when we could expect the device to be released, stating that after the “full overhaul,” the mouse would be ready to launch in the next 12 to 18 months. This tells us that a 2026 release is the earliest we can expect, with a more reasonable mid-2026 arrival.
It is unclear if Apple has finalized the redesign for the Magic Mouse or if they are still planning out the specifics, but we’re hoping the company looks at user feedback and truly revises the gadget to reach its full potential.
What Do Users Want from the Magic Mouse Upgrade?
Most users appreciate a mouse with wireless charging capabilities, especially when paired with a mouse pad that allows them to charge the device easily. Alternatively, a front charging port may also be sufficient for users to use the mouse conveniently without having to charge it up at the last minute.
Customers also tend to prefer a three-button mouse for convenience, which is something that Apple has been slow to provide. The Magic Mouse already has a 360º scroll feature to aid in navigation, but sometimes, physical buttons are more convenient.
A more ergonomic design over the current minimalistic and aesthetically pleasing one could considerably improve the useability of the Magic Mouse, but we’ll have to wait for Apple to reveal just how ambitious it’s willing to be with the Magic Mouse’s redesign.
Other Apple Updates that Have Kept Us on Our Toes
Apple is expected to launch a new iPhone SE model next year, which has caught our interest. The smartphone is expected to sport the internal hardware from the iPhone 16 along with Apple Intelligence capabilities, so if a single camera system is good enough for you, it may be the company’s most efficient model to date at such an affordable price.
Apart from the Magic Mouse, Apple is also working on a foldable device. No, we’re not talking about a foldable flip phone, although there have been rumors about that as well. There is reportedly a foldable iPad in the works, which should feature a “nearly invisible crease” and function like “two iPad Pros side-by-side.” This could make it operate at the scale of a Mac but with the functionality of an iPad, which would be an interesting hybrid to witness.
Apple is also working on an improved version of an AirTag, which will be fascinating considering the device is already at the top of its game. We also know that a sleek, thin iPhone 17 is coming next year, so we’ll have both devices to look forward to in a few months’ time.
We can’t forget the Apple Vision Pro either, as a cheaper alternative to the headset is expected to arrive in the next two years. The Cupertino company remains committed to mastering the spatial computing segment of the market but its current device has not seen the reception it had originally envisioned. With all of these different products in the works, we’re curious to see how the company’s products evolve in the next few years.
