There are no official release dates out for the ROG Phone 8 but with the considerable amount of information that has made it to the market, the design and details appear all ready to set out for its marketing cycle. The ROG Phone 8 price remains unknown so far but speculations are certain it will maintain a starting price above $1000 considering the price of its older models. The ROG Phone 7 is priced at $999 and the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate comes with a $1400 price tag. Until we know more about the upcoming devices, it is hard to determine if they will be worth the investment.
Asus ROG Phone 8—More Power, Better Design
Everything known about the Asus ROG 8 specs are in the form of unconfirmed rumors so far, but what we do know is the adoption of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset in the new phone. The chips were announced in late October and since then, many companies have announced that they were already in the process of adopting the chips immediately. Xiaomi was the first one out with a phone featuring the latest System-on-Chip (SoC) but many others are set to follow in 2024. The primary strength of the chip currently focuses on its potential to bring generative AI to the device but its 3.3Hz clock speeds, 30 percent performance boost, 20 increase in energy efficiency, and 25 percent faster graphics rendering promise an enhanced gaming experience, the main appeal of the Asus ROG Phone 8.
For now, rumors indicate that we will see three phones launched in the series, the base model ROG Phone 8, the ROG Phone 8 Pro, and the ROG Phone 8 Ultimate. GSM Arena provided an update to the Asus ROG 8 specs in terms of battery and charging as well. The Asus ROG Phone 8 Ultimate listing was spotted on the 3C (China Compulsory Certification) agency in China, mentioned with a 65W fast charging capability. The device should support the PPS PD3.0 standard and the QC5 protocol according to the report, making it a quite promising attribute of the unreleased phone.
The Geekbench Listing Reveal—24GM RAM Expected
According to a Geekbench listing that was discovered the Asus ROG 8 specs for the Ultimate model were made freely available to the public that has been waiting for updates. Apart from the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chips, the device should feature a 24GB RAM and Android 14 operating system with the ROG UI built over it. The ROG Phone 7 Ultimate had 16 GB RAM so the new Asus model does seem to be leveling up considerably. With a single-core score of 2235 and a multi-core score of 7098. The ROG Phone 7 Ultimate (X Mode) had a 1473 single-core score and a 5180 multi-core score on release, so there is evidence of improved performance compared to the older phone.
Asus’ line of ROG gaming devices is quite on top of trends in terms of capabilities and design, however the “Beyond Gaming” tag on the ROG Global X/Twitter post suggests the company is trying to build it up as a multipurpose device. Most users likely do not use the device solely for the purpose of gaming, and customers have expressed hope that the Asus ROG 8 specs will boost more than just the gaming performance, such as the camera on the device. The camera layout at least does seem to have received a revamp as the quite attractive camera strip on the ROG Phone 7 seems to have been replaced by a square set-up with the primary camera accompanied by two others vertically lined up to its right. The segmented rear design on the ROG Phone 7 undeniably made it look like a “gamer phone” but the single image we have seen of the Asus ROG Phone 8 so far, appears to offer up a much quieter design choice.
Asus’ alternate line of Zenfone 10 smartphones has been performing quite well on its own, marking its presence in the more affordable, compact category of devices. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, 16GB RAM, 4300mAh battery, and extensive color range provide something for everyone. It remains a good phone for those looking for an everyday alternative and we hope the Asus ROG Phone 8 doesn’t stray too far away from the gaming category into this, more muted, category.

The official @ASUS_ROG X/Twitter page also dropped an ambiguous teaser for a device coming out on 8 January at 3 PM PST, but little else is clear from the teaser. The term “Zephyrus” appears briefly, suggesting the company might also be dropping the next Zephyrus G14 gaming laptop next month, a nice treat for gamers to start off their year with. It’s unlikely that we’ll see any other Asus ROG 8 Pro updates and details until then but there’s no harm in hoping for breadcrumbs anyways.
