Gaming consoles don’t get nearly as many hardware releases as smartphones do, so when there’s a new one being manifested on the horizon, it’s most certainly a big deal. The Nintendo Switch 2 leaks have kept us and most gamers on their toes in recent months, excited about the possibilities of what’s coming next for the company.

The rumors surrounding the upcoming Switch console tell us that we’re all set for a massive upgrade in storage and power while keeping the form factor mostly the same. This is a good headstart as far as we’re concerned, giving us enough to patiently await Switch 2’s rumored launch date, which is set for sometime in early 2025.

Nintendo Switch 2 Leaks—When Can We Expect the Console to Arrive?

Nintendo has not come out and made any official announcements surrounding the Nintendo Switch 2 or its scheduled release, but at this point, fans have accepted that the console will be released in the next few months, whether Nintendo admits it or not.

Initial rumors had suggested that the handheld gaming device was going to make a debut sometime between January and March, but now it seems it may be delayed to May or June at the earliest.

Wccftech has stated that there is a Nintendo Switch 2-focused event being planned for May, which is where we may hear more about the console’s release. Previous rumors had indicated that a new 3D Mario and Mario Kart game could arrive with the new console, so there should be at least a few new titles to inaugurate the device with. Metroid Prime 4 is also expected to launch in 2025, so that should be ready for the new console as well.

Most of the news regarding the Switch 2 console suggests it will be fully backward compatible with the older Switch games, so you can safely purchase it without worrying about losing access to your favorite titles.

Nintendo Switch 2 leaks also suggest the console could be priced around €400-€500 ($420-$524), which would make it the company’s most expensive console release.

Switch 2 Hardware Specs Leaks Suggest a Decent RAM Upgrade

Rumors about the upcoming Switch console suggest it will have 12GB RAM and 256GB storage, which is considerably bigger than the 4GB RAM and 32GB storage on the original Switch. With a better processor, the device should be much more efficient at handling demanding games and allowing them to run at their full potential.

Which processor Nintendo has adopted remains a mystery. The Nvidia Tegra T239 processor is rumored to feature in the Switch 2, but some hopeful voices suggest that AMD may have swayed Nintendo towards using one of its offerings.

The rumors have also suggested the possibility of two cooling fans, room for Samsung SD Express microSD cards, and support for HDMI 2.1. A second USB-C port has been taken to suggest that it could have a second screen of some sort, but this remains to be seen.

A 20Wh battery is also expected on the console, which is a small step up from the current OLED device.

Should We Expect a Design Upgrade from the Switch 2?

The design and style of the Switch are unlikely to change too significantly, but Nintendo may make some minor ergonomic upgrades and add additional buttons to set it apart slightly from its predecessor—or at least we’re hoping it does.

Accessories for the console have reportedly been spotted online at various Chinese retailers, and these give the impression that the screen will be slightly bigger on the new model. As a result, we could see a nice 8-inch display make an appearance.

All of the Nintendo Switch 2 leaks are extremely hypothetical as of now, as Nintendo has been very careful about avoiding all mentions of the upcoming console. With the new year rolling in, Nintendo may be kind enough to drop a few scraps of information soon to make the wait to launch day just a little bit easier.
