The more the folds the better the phone, is that how it goes? We don’t know if that’s true yet, but the excitement around the Samsung tri-fold phone rumors suggests that users definitely feel that way right now. The company has not confirmed the launch date of the upcoming Samsung tri-fold device, but the word around town is that we are set to see it launch in 2025.

Not only that, Samsung’s foldable phone 2025 launch plan is expected to include four separate devices this year. With a strategy like this, the South Korean company may be able to bring in a flagship tri-fold device, a Galaxy Flip, a Galaxy Fold, and a cheaper variant of the flip to cater to the average consumer as well. Let’s take stock of all the Samsung tri-fold phone rumors so far.

The Samsung Tri-Fold Phone Rumors Indicate a 2025 Launch—Will the Company Be Able to Meet Expectations?

The foldable phone market has been both a fast-growing and a slow-rising segment in the overall smartphone industry. While there is great demand for these versatile devices, it is also true that they are much more expensive to produce and sell, making it harder to set a price point that is accessible to more consumers.

Samsung, Google, and Huawei have continued to lead the market with their offerings, with Motorola, OnePlus, and Oppo doing a commendable job of catching up to the big players with more affordable alternatives. Data gathered by Mordor Intelligence suggests that the foldable smartphone market size is estimated at $33.64 billion in 2025, and could grow to reach $74.16 billion by 2030.

Samsung’s reign in the industry has been apparent for a while now, but Huawei’s latest tri-fold phone, the Mate XT, took matters a step further, setting a new standard for what is possible with existing technology. The device’s limited release in China kept it from breaking into the international scene, leaving room for competitors to captivate the market with their own version of a triple-fold phone.

According to tipster Jukanlosreve, who referred to a video from The Elec, Samsung will release its scheduled Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 to continue its series of foldables. In addition to this, the company will bring in a Galaxy Z Flip FE, which will arrive at a more affordable price and more humble specs to boot. Finally, we’ll also bear witness to Samsung’s tri-fold phone release, which is what all the fuss is about right now.

Rumored Specifications of the Samsung Tri-Fold Phone

The Galaxy Z Fold 6 had a 7.6-inch screen so it stands to reason that a triple-fold phone will be a little larger. The smartphone is expected to have a display measuring between 9.9 inches and 10 inches in its fully unfolded form. No news is available on the screen size when folded.

The Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 are expected to arrive with the Exynos 2500 chipset, so this could be the same chip used in the tri-fold phone, but this remains unconfirmed. Little else is known about the structure of the device.

Rumor has it that the Samsung triple-fold phone will unfold in a different way from the Huawei Mate XT, showcasing its own unique “G-shaped” mechanism for the device. In order to enhance the durability of the device, it will not have an exposed screen edge on the hinges, which is one of the more worrying details in the Huawei version of the device. An under-display camera may also be absent with this upcoming form factor.

Speculations on the Samsung Tri-Fold Phone’s Availability

Samsung has not confirmed any timelines for the device’s launch, but tipsters and analysts estimate that it will arrive in the second half of 2025. The company is expected to give us access to the device during a Galaxy Unpacked event in July, but this is an optimistic timeline.

As per the rumors, the company will begin production in Q2, with a Q3 release, but this might be cutting it too close. Samsung may announce the device with its other foldables but set a more lenient timeline for its availability.

Samsung is Looking at a More Limited Release of the Upcoming Phone

The talk around town also suggests that the Samsung tri-fold phone’s release will be far more limited compared to the other foldables. It is believed that only 300,000 units may be made available for purchase, with some reports putting the numbers even lower at 200,000 units produced over a year. If sales exceed expectations, we’re certain that Samsung will eventually expand its production target as well, but this will occur after the demand for it is assessed.

The low production numbers are reasonable as the device is expected to be expensive and difficult to produce. Obviously, the Samsung triple-fold phone will be the company’s most expensive foldable phone or smartphone to date, so even if customers are interested in the device, the ultimate demand could be much lower.

While all eyes are on the rumors of Samsung’s tri-fold phone, we may be jumping the gun and ignoring the upcoming Galaxy S25 series launch scheduled this week. The January 22, 2025, Galaxy Unpacked event is almost here, and the release of the S25 may bring us some insight into the capabilities and AI support we can expect on Samsung triple-fold phones later this year.
