While we’re all going rabid over the latest console releases and whether our favorite games will be playable on them, the Cyberpunk 2077 Turf Wars release is taking us back to the early days of arcade gaming. Lai Games, the company that took over the project from CD Projekt Red, is expanding on our beloved neon-soaked franchise with a unique spin on a game launch.

The gargantuan arcade cabinet will allow you to experience the tactile shooter game through its heavy machine guns, tactile feedback, and on-screen explosions, immersing you in the game from head to toe. The Cyberpunk 2077 spin-off is an interesting proposition for advancing the gaming industry despite its limited reach due to its arcade format.

Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer

There are many ways to keep a game alive but we like this Cyberpunk 2077 arcade spin-off concept the most.

Cyberpunk 2077 Turf Wars Release Shows There’s Room for Innovation in Gaming

So, what do we know from the Cyberpunk 2077 Turf Wars announcement? Last week, LAI Games, in partnership with CD Projekt Red, announced the colossal gaming machine as a collaborative project to keep the franchise alive. This week, the arcade game made its presence felt at the Amusement Expo 2025 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

The machine features two guns for seated players and a digital display that will allow the players to shoot down their enemies. The light gun game offers three player modes—Story mode, Co-Op/Versus mode, and Sniper mode. If you like playing with a little backstory to get your head in the game, the Story mode should be your obvious pick. On the other hand, if you just want to take some opponents down and don’t particularly care for the Cyberpunk legacy, then you can give the other modes a shot.

Some Technical Specs of the Cyberpunk 2077 Spin-off Game

The Cyberpunk 2077 Turf Wars arcade machine is 49.8 inches wide, 102.8 inches tall, and 155.7 inches in depth. It weighs 1477lbs and requires a whole 800W of power. The technical specs page on the website right now shows slightly bigger and more demanding Cabinet specs. The guns showcase some advanced haptic feedback and there’s a patented Blast Shooting Effect that enhances the experience with color-coded blasts on screen.

Featuring projection mapping technology, the game seamlessly integrates vivid video visuals with physical targets, creating an immersive battleground where players engage in explosive, high-energy combat.

The action-adventure RPG has a very detailed story and layers of content built over it, but there’s only story and material you can expect from an arcade game. It will have to rely more on speed,  explosions, and eye-catching graphics to make the experience engaging for its players.

How Will Cyberpunk 2077 Turf Wars Release Contribute to Sales?

The newly announced Cyberpunk 2077 Turf Wars release is a big step in expanding the franchise, albeit in a unique way that won’t necessarily boost the company’s sales. Despite a rocky release in 2020, the Cyberpunk 2077 universe has been expansive. By November 2024, it was reported that the game sold over 30 million copies worldwide. The Phantom Liberty expansion, released in 2023, was responsible for 8 million sales.

The series also inspired the show Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and while the graphics were stunning, the ups and downs of the show were enough to have us constantly at the edge of our seats. The point is, that the Cyberpunk 2077 universe has been expanding, and so far it has made them some good money in the process. How will the Cyberpunk Turf Wars arcade format change that?

Is Cyberpunk 2077 Turf Wars Reviving Arcade Games?

The arcade-style setup of the new game will limit these machines to gaming arcades, and not all gamers interested in the franchise will have one available close to them or even be willing to step out. Older arcade games still pull some millennials out of their homes to go swimming through nostalgia as they game, but it has been a while since a modern-day title has sparked enough interest to get people out of their homes.

That said, Cyberpunk Turf Wars’ arcade format could be an interesting way to bridge the gap between arcade gamers and strictly console gamers. Going to arcades to play games used to be a social experience that many grew up with, but now we have largely turned to a more solo style of gaming from the comfort of our homes. Yes, we still play multiplayer games online, but the experience is just not the same.

Franchises like Transformers and Alien have their own arcade games thanks to Liberty Games, but it has been a while since an arcade game has excited us. With the ongoing console wars pulling us between different options and planning out our budget for future purchases, this nine-foot, 1,500lb Cyberpunk 2077 Turf Wars release for community gaming is just what we need to see today.

Will gamers care enough about the Cyberpunk 2077 Turf Wars release or are we all too far gone in the craze for the next PlayStation or Xbox?

Cyberpunk 2077 Turf Wars Release Details: Price and Availability

Unfortunately, so far we do not have numbers for either the price of the arcade game or when it will start being distributed. The Cyberpunk arcade multiplayer is meant for purchase for exciting stores and gaming centers so it’ll definitely be out of budget for the large majority of us, and rightfully so.

Arcades that want to get in on the Cyberpunk 2077 Turf Wars release early and book their machines can go to the LAI Games website and find a distributor or request a callback, but it doesn’t appear that it will go into circulation immediately. We’ll add an update here if we learn more.

How Are We Feeling About the Cyberpunk 2077 Spin-off?

CD Projekt Red’s decision to diversify the Cyberpunk 2077 release and hand off responsibility for the launch is an interesting one. While this will continue to create some buzz around the game and the franchise’s redemption story, the team will be free to work on other projects like Witcher 4.

The novelty of an arcade game for a triple-A RPG franchise is enough to make this an innovative deviation in the gaming industry regardless of whether the investment pays off. Could this be the next stage for franchises to expand? The recently released Assassin’s Creed Shadows game has received reviews of the same content being overdone, but maybe in a new format, fans might be more receptive to what the title has to offer.

It’s far too early to say that arcade gaming is making a comeback but we’re still keen to see how this plays out and whether more businesses turn to innovation like this.

Cyberpunk 2077 Turf Wars’ arcade machine could be a big hit among gamers. Do you like this new direction for the series? Let us know what you think. For more news on the gaming world and its many shifting stories, subscribe to Technowize.
